Policy and legislation
BioTHOP supports the EU resource-efficient policies and legislations. Its project actions refer to the main ideas of the Roadmap to a Resource Efficient Europe (COM (2011) 571) as a result of the Seventh EU Environmental Action Programme (7th EAP, No. 1386/2013/EU), stressing out the importance of transforming the EU into a resource-efficient and low carbon economy zone, with particular focus on turning waste into a resource, with more prevention, reuse and recycling by 2020, e.g. a circular bioeconomy model.
BioTHOP follows strategies, such as:
- Resource-efficient Economy “Doing more with less”;
- Safeguard the Union’s citizens from environment-related pressures and risks to health and wellbeing;
- Information up-dating “Best decisions on latest data”;
- Circular Economy;
- European Strategy for Plastics in Circular Economy (COM (2018) 28).
BioTHOP creates synergies with the objectives of other EU directives and contributes to the integration of environmental aspects into other policies at European, National and Regional level. Furthermore, BioTHOP strives towards the implementation of the Green Procurement Principles that entail the processes of procuring goods and services with a reduced environmental impact.
