Sezona obiranja hmelja v Spodnji Savinjski dolini se bliža koncu. Ekipa Life BioTHOP je v času obiranja sodelovala s hmeljarji, ki so testirali novo PLA vrvico. Med sezono in pred obiranjem smo izvajali meritve pretržnih sil vrvice. Vzorce smo poslali partnerju Lankhorst Yarns, ki bo izvedel zaključne teste na vrvici. Nekaj hmeljevine, pomešane s PLA vrvico, smo zbrali, posušili in poslali partnerju Zelfo Technology, ki bo izločil vlakna iz hmeljevine tako, da bodo ta uporabna v proizvodnji embalaže in v bioplastičnih kompozitih. V sodelovanju s hmeljarji smo postavili tudi kompostne kupe. Sedaj smo osredotočeni na merjenje temperature in mešanje kompostnih kupov, da zagotovimo optimalne razmere za razgradnjo PLA vrvice. Čaka nas pestra jesen, saj si prizadevamo za optimalni izkoristek hmeljevine in vzpostavitev krožnega gospodarstva v hmeljarstvu.

Hop harvesting season in Lower Savinja Valley is coming to an end. Life BioTHOP team collaborated with hop growers to test the new PLA twine at harvest time. During hop season and before harvesting we were making measurements of twine breaking force. We sent twine samples to our partner Lankhorst Yarns, who will make final tests. Some hops steams intertwined with PLA twine were collected, dried and sent to partner Zelfo Technology, who will extract the fibers from hop waste, so they will be usable in fiber pulp moulding applications and extrusion compounding transforming processes. In cooperation with hop growers, we also set up compost piles. We are now focused on measuring temperature measuring and mixing of compost piles to ensure optimal conditions for PLA twine biodegradation. Busy autumn awaits us, as we strive to profit optimally hop biomass, and thus establish a circular economy in the hop growing sector.
