V aprilu smo začeli z obširno analizo kompostnih kupov s hmeljevino, prepleteno z BioTHOP vrvico, ki smo jih v jeseni 2019 postavili na Inštitutu za hmeljarstvo in pivovarstvo Slovenije ter pri sodelujočih hmeljarjih v Spodnji Savinjski dolini. Med sabo se kompostni kupi razlikujejo po osnovnih sestavinah, saj so nekje sestavljeni iz mešane hmeljevine (listov in trt), drugje pa samo iz trt, obenem smo v kupe pri postavitvi primešali različne dodatke (biooglje, efektivne mikroorganizme, Glenor, gnojevko …). Vsi kupi so pripravljeni iz trt, ki so prepletene s PLA BioTHOP vrvico, da smo spremljali njeno razgradnjo. Kupi so imeli tudi različne režime zračenja. Po sedmih mesecih smo pregledali vse kompostne kupe in odvzeli vzorce za analize. Opazili smo, da se vrvica najbolje razgradi, če je hmeljevina dobro zmleta na čim manjše delce, saj so hranila tako lažje dostopna organizmom za razgradnjo. Vrvica je v notranjosti takšnih kupov že v tem času skoraj neopazna, kompost pa na videz primerljiv s komercialnim kompostom.

In April, we have started with overall compost assessments. The composts were made of hop biomass after harvest intertwined with the PLA BioTHOP twine, harvested in autumn 2019 and are located at the Slovenian Institute of hop Research and Brewing and at the hop growers in the Lower Savinja Valley. The piles differ among themselves by the type of material that can be whole hop biomass after harvest with stems and leaves or only stems. They also differ by added accelerators (biocharcoal, effective microorganisms, Glenor, manure,…) or aeration. The degradation of the twine inside of the piles was followed. After seven months we have sampled all the piles and did the assessments. We have seen that the twine degrades better when whole biomass is shredded into very small pieces therefore the nutrients are easily available to organisms for degradation. The twine inside of the piles is almost invisible, and the compost looks similar to commercial compost.
